For the third project that involves videos and projection and physical reality I was thinking about projecting bright, vibrant colors that are dreamlike. The videos would be similar to candy land, a make believe world that everyone imagines of. These videos and images would be projected onto trash, rats, plastic cans and bottles. The message I would like to show is possibly the reality that most people try to escape and distract themselves through other sources of entertainment. Like phones, computers, movies, books, and etc. I have realized that lately I tend to go on my phone and scroll, read comics, movies or shows to escape my personality and my reality. Another interpretation of this could be the harsh reality that kids in low income houses live in. Their reality is an unsanitary , unsafe environment for them but they don't realize that, since they are still kids they still see the world like a wonderland like we all have. The inspiration for this idea was the Movie I had watched in one of my other classes that explores gender and culture through film. We watched the movie The Florida Project. I watched the movie at 6am and was deeply immersed in the movie and it was really hard for me. The colors and the way it was shot was beautiful, elevating the bright colors and working with the motel. The little girl lived in a motel called MAgic Castle. The movie deals with the struggles of poverty and low income families that have to do illegal work to survive. Since this movie hit so hard for me and resonates with me in a way I would like to show everyone what I had experienced in The Florida Project, I want the audience to see the issues of Housing insecurity, and employment instability that low income families deal with.
