The author first talks about the definition of what glitch means to people which is seen as “noise” or something that is unwanted by many people.A mistake. The author talks about how glitch can be used on purpose for artists to explore boundaries of form, perception and meaning. Since a glitch is seen as something people don't usually want in their visuals, audio etc, the author challenges the idea that it could be a cool median. He is challenging social norms of glitch.
The author talks about the various creations and ideas we can use from glitch. He says to embrace the breaking of the original source, and to be able to see glitches as familiar, trying to show the viewers a different perspective. Seeing glitch disrupts the perfect flow of information, and glitch art wants to show the beauty of the hidden structures and bases in technology. How can we manipulate the information we have?
I had never realized it but when I was in middle school, some websites would not let me read an article unless you had an account or you paid. My fed up middle school self tried many ways to get over this obstacle, one way I did this was by clicking right click on my keyboard and being able to press “Inspect”. I would be able to see all the codes that run this page. I would mess around until I found the code that would pop up for the login to the article. I would delete the code. Sometimes if I could not find it I would just delta random text, headers, and images. It was really fun. In a way I was doing my own glitch. I still do it to this day just for fun.
Ultimately, the text promotes a serendipitous and uncertainty of the glitches in our world. We are able to control it but at what point? Rather than fearing the breakdown of systems, it pushes us artists to play and have an open mindset to this medium. This similarly reminds me of the discussion of AI. I also found it a fun read when the author would put the texts in random places and not just a linear text box, the glitch in the pages/texts were a nice detail to his argument.
